Integrating pharmacy

Assura believes that a fully integrated pharmacy has an even greater opportunity to provide local communities with the services they require.

A closer alignment of pharmacy and primary care enables pharmacists to play a greater role in the provision of healthcare services and will facilitate improved clinical outcomes for patients.

Driving forward change

The pharmacist has long been an under utilised resource in the delivery of primary healthcare services and the recent Government White Paper encourages pharmacists to play a greater role in the provision of these services. Assura looks to drive forward change in the way that pharmacy works with all stakeholders in a primary care setting.

We support the development of integrated pharmacy in our existing property investments and in our new property developments. We seek new pharmacy licences and also acquire existing pharmacies close to our property sites which can be relocated, or where a future health location may be possible.

Greater co-operation

There are commercial advantages to the integrated pharmacy operating model through, for example, the development of enhanced pharmacy services in local communities.

Technological advances such as the electronic transfer of prescriptions and co-ordinated stock holding also deliver significant operating efficiencies. With greater co-operation between health professionals and pharmacists, services can be tailored to the specific needs of a locality.
